I would be totally confident for any "regular sized" printer, but have a bit of worry that the large format printer/plotter you are dealing with might present some extra complications.
So, it seems likely if you can "Share Printer" from your Mojave machine, all the other machines (Catalina and Big Sur for example) will be able to printer to it. Starting with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, an administrator can, as an option, configure a printer driver to run in an isolated process-a process that is separate from the spooler.

I suspect that the print jobs are sent to the "host Mac" in some generic format (like PostScript or more likely PDF) and then the "host Mac" uses its drivers to translate that information into whatever the printer needs. The failure of a single print driver component could cause the print subsystem to fail, halting print operations for all users and for all print components. For Big Sur system that add the printer using the Print&Scan pane in System Preferences, the auto selected driver is the existing Samsung driver on the Mojave system, so it seems like for Printer Sharing, the drivers on the "host Mac" are used. No drivers available, and it isn't Postscript (maybe it is PCL and the generic PCL might have worked).Īnyway, what did work was to turn on Printer Sharing for one of the Macs running Mojave, which does have working printer drivers for this device.
